IPEDS Fall Enrollment vs KSPSD

• KSPSD definitions basically follow the IPEDS
  definitions
• For some years, checked and validated the totals
  counts of KSPSD matched the totals counts of
  IPEDS fall enrollments
• Have not compared student level counts
• (yet ?)

Finance Survey Definition

• 11 State appropriations Report all amounts
  received by the institution through acts of a
  state legislative body, except grants and
  contracts and amounts reportable on line 20.
  Funds reported in this category are for meeting
  current operating expenses, not for specific
  projects or programs.

Finance Survey Definition

• 14 State non-operating grants Report all
  amounts reported as non-operating revenues from
  state governmental agencies that are provided on
  a non-exchange basis. Do not include capital
  grants gifts reported on line 21.

Finance Data Goal

• Instead of creating another data collection for
  Finance data, KBOR would like to use the Finance
  IPEDS survey as its database.
• However, in order to do this, the data MUST be
  cleaned up!!!

IPEDS Finance Survey Definition Sheet

• A subcommittee of System Council of Business
  Officers (SCOBO) was formed
• Representation from all sectors
• Work over the summer and fall to align IPEDS
  definitions and Kansas practices
• Report back to SCOBO in late fall with a
  Definition Sheet
• Once Approved, IR and SCOBO will share will all
  institutions

• Institutions will be asked to correct the FY2007
  data using the new Definition sheet
• Starting with the FY2008 Finance survey all
  institutions should use the new Definition
  Sheet to help interpret the IPEDS definitions

Consistency Process for other IPEDS Surveys

• No formal process outlined yet for the remaining
  surveys.
• IR will probably lead the process for these
  surveys
• A work group with representatives from each
  sector will always be formed
• Outcome for each survey will always be a Kansas
  Definition Sheet to be used by all institutions
  to supplement IPEDS definitions
