  • The PESSCL strategy is now the PE and Sport
    Strategy for Young People often referred to as
    the 5 hour offer
  • At least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport
    (5 16yrs)
  • The opportunity for at least a further 3 hours
    beyond the school day delivered by a range of
    school, community and club providers (5 19yrs)

    people in the 5 to 19 age range from the semi
    sporty population segment take up an additional
    2 hours of term time high quality sports
    activities through attractive provision designed
    to stimulate and increase take up and sustain
    participation

Extending Activities - outcomes
  • to contribute to the Government agreements and to
    complement aspects of the Every Child Matters
    Agenda
  • to hear what semi sporty children and young
    people want and to deliver these sporting
    activities through clubs and organisations within
    Surrey
  • to communicate with these semi sporty young
    people through the local delivery system and sign
    post them to a high quality, positive activity.
  • to create behavioural change in the young people
    by encouraging them to participate more regularly
    in out of school and community sport activities

Over the next 3 years in Surrey, Extending
Activities is looking to retain 11,484
semi-sporty young people through 390,900
investment
  • Delivered through a county plan of local
    projects, co-ordinated by ASSP with the
    involvement and ownership of local delivery
    organisations LAs, SSPs, NGBs and other partners
  • Target semi sporty young people for additional
    1 to 2 hours
  • Projects should be of 10 weeks duration
  • Focus on agreed priorities, e.g. 11 to 19 age
    range
  • Term time projects, delivered out of school hours
    and in club and community settings
  • Focus on high quality, attractive and SUSTAINABLE
    provision
  • Develop clubs that attract a wider range of young
    people

  • Community Clubs need support
  • Ensuring there is agreement with third parties
    (particularly schools) up front
  • Delivering in partnership shares the workload but
    make sure roles and responsibilities are clear
  • Commitment needed to get young people to the
    start line
