A dictionary

• Gives you the definition or meaning of a word.
• Tells you how to pronounce the word.
• Check to see how a word is spelled.
• Shows you where to divide a word into syllables.
  
• Need to know what a word means? Try your
  dictionary.

An encyclopedia

• Gives you information about lots of different
  subjects.
• It shows you photographs, illustrations, and
  diagrams of many things.
• Need a reliable source of information for your
  report? Try an encyclopedia.

A thesaurus

• Gives you a synonym for any word you might be
  using.
• Gives you antonyms for words, too.
• Tired of using the same wordtry using a
  thesaurus!

An almanac

• Gives yearly statistics on various items.
• Crop information
• Astronomical information
• Rising and setting of sun and moon
• Tide information
• Calendar information

A telephone book

• Gives you phone numbers of friends and
  businesses.
• Gives you addresses of friends and businesses,
  too.
• Helps you locate a certain type of business.
• Looking for the closest music store? Try a
  telephone book.

An atlas

• Gives you maps of cities, counties, countries,
  even the world!
• You can look at physical maps, climate maps,
  political maps, road maps, and topographic maps.
