CHALLENGES
  • Coordination of the march for the various
departments was a bit of a challenge considering
    the citys by laws.
  • Commitment on the part of senior members to where
they were deployed on unannounced visits to
    service delivery points was lacking.
  • Senior managers could not submit the unannounced
visits forms to coordinators even after followed
    up.
  • Departments had other planned programmes that
were not related to the public service week.
  • No common promotional gifts for the pavement
    kiosks
  • No coordination between Communicators and
officials in the public service delivery
    directorates within the various departments.

10
Learnings
  • Besides the major programmes initiated by the OoP
    departments must coordinate internal departmental
    activities to promote the week.
  • All political principals and senior managers must
    participate and support departmental programmes
    as deployed.
  • The public service week should be budgeted for by
all departments to promote maximum participation.
  • The public service week should be on the GPG
    calendar
  • Reports on the results of the unannounced visits
    be submitted by senior managers.
  • Promotional items should be produced to promote
    the GPG public service week.
  • Clear roles and guidelines between communicators
and public service delivery units within
    departments.
