The Process Steps
  • Executive Officer calls for applications and
    advises closing date
  • Applicants submit application to the Dean
  • Dean provides report and recommends Assessors
  • Committee decides on suitable Assessors
  • Applications sent to Referees and Assessors
    requesting reports
  • Once all reports are received the Committee meets
    to decide on Promotions
  • Applicants are notified of the outcome

Applications
  • Onus on Applicants to provide evidence supporting
    their claim of sustained excellence and
    leadership.
  • Applicants nominate three Referees (not to
    include their Dean/Director). Only two Referees
    will be approached.
  • Applicants must contact Referees and ensure they
    are available to provide a report. Applicants
    must provide full contact details within their
    application.

Criterion Indicators
  • Experience or Achievement in Teaching Learning
  • Achievement in Research Scholarship
  • Achievement in Business Development, Professional
    Consultancy and Industry Links
  • Community Access
  • Corporate Services

Criteria for Demonstrated Merit
  • Level B/Category II
  • Make a quality contribution to the teaching
    effort of the institution, to carry out
    activities to maintain and develop his/her
    scholarly research, and/or professional
    activities relevant to the profession, discipline
    or industry sector. .
  • Demonstrate a quality contribution in relation
    to at least one of the other Core Business Areas
    of Community and Access, Business Development or
    Corporate Service
  • Level C/Category III
  • Make significant contribution to the teaching
    and learning effort of a school, faculty or other
    organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area.
    .
  • Demonstrate significant competence in
    Scholarship and Research and/or professional
    activity relevant to professional/industry sector
    or discipline
  • Demonstrate contribution to at least one of the
    other Core Business Areas of Community and
    Access, Business Development or Corporate
    Services.

Criteria for Demonstrated Merit
  • Level D/Category IV
  • Make a significant contribution to all
    activities of the organisational unit or
    interdisciplinary area and play a significant
    role within the profession or discipline.
    Academics at this level may be appointed in
    recognition of distinction in their disciplinary
    area.
  • Provide leadership in at least one of the Core
    Business Areas, Teaching and Learning, Research
    and Scholarship, Business Development, Community
    and Access or Corporate Service
  • Demonstrate significant competence in at least
    three of the other Core Business Areas.
  • Level E
  • Provide leadership recognised within a
    significant community of peers either, nationally
    or internationally within one Core Business Area
  • Provide leadership within three other Core
    Business Areas.

Reports
  • Deans Report
  • A report will be sought from your Dean.
  • Assessors Reports
  • Your Dean will nominate 5 external Assessors.
  • The Committee chooses three to provide reports.
  • Referees Reports
  • Applicants are asked to provide the names of
    three Referees.
  • The Committee chooses two to provide reports.

Consideration of Applications
  • The Promotions Committee considers
  • The documentation provided by the Applicant
  • Comments from the applicants Dean, Referees
    and Assessors
  • Copy of letter to unsuccessful applicant from
    previous promotion application
  • Any other relevant information
  • The interview, if one was held

Notification of Outcomes
  • Notification of outcome by letter signed by the
    chair of the Committee.
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be notified
    personally by their Dean.

Appeals Process
  • The only ground for an appeal is a breach of the
    process.
  • The appeal must be in writing and lodged with the
    Executive Officer, Academic Promotions Committee.
  • The appeal must specify grounds for appeal.
