Stratigraphy is the main influence in the concept
design of the hotel. Using strata as a mediator
between spaces, its aesthetic tectonic layers of
rock or soil with internally consistent
characteristics that distinguishes it from
contiguous layers. Each layers of vertical and
horizontal tectonic modular intercept and
interfere the spaces. The historical entrance is
left untouched, it symbolize the early or
original strata, new strata are later radiated
from the origin, travelling to the void, creating
tension and pressure. Hence erosion occurred in
the final stage of stratification to neutralize
the impact. The restaurant and bar derived from
the process of wine making, which is the result
of the interaction between component and tectonic
through fermentation and aging. By arranging this
two persona, stratigraphy its all about the
tectonic shift, movement, stretching, layering
and correlation of positive versus negative
strata. By juxtaposing the positive space
(strata) and the negative space (erosion), it
allows light to penetrate, creating a retreat
space, a departure to the stair and to the
horizon (bedroom suite).

The main concepts is to frame the space. John
Chamberss building is the location and
environment. From the north view, Oriental Bay
provides a stunning atmosphere. The design is
also to frame the view of the bay, preserve and
bring the view to the suite. By composing a
series framed space in the entrance, it detains
the view and framed it as if looking at a
painting. The series also uses asymmetric
approach, from small frame to large frame,
creating movement towards the view and bed area.
The frames work as a mediator between the
entrance and the bedroom suite. It also forms a
focal point and an axis pointing towards the
window. The asymmetric axis path is also enhanced
by using level changes on the floor. The floors
are gradually elevated in each frame increasing
our eye level point. On the last frame which is
the bed area, the floor space ultimately align
with the horizon line from the Oriental Bay. The
bed is also lowered to match the horizon.
