When Hitler became the leader of Germany in
1936,he promised to make the country powerful
again, and gain back the land that Germany lost
after WW1. After Hitler had fought in the first
WW, as a runner and got shot, he was very
patriotic towards his country and wanted Germanys
name to be feared all over the world and began to
build Nazi Germany.

The army
Hitler created conscription in 1935. Hitler
brought back lots of men willing to fight. If you
did not march for Hitler, you and your family
would be shamed, so people were forced into
conscription. After getting his troop numbers up
Hitler ordered many factories to make weapons.
Hitler made his Air force and Navy stronger he
increased industrial out put, Germany would be
stronger.

The agreement
Hitler and Germany allied with Stalin
and Russia so that neither of them would attack
each other. Russia was a very big and powerful
country, and with France and Britain threatening
to attack, an attack from Russia would be a
severe blow to Germany. They never actually
joined forces but where mere allies and could
turn on one another at any time.

The invasion
In 1938, the German army invaded Austria and made
that country part of Germany. The following year.
The army went into Czechoslovakia and then
threatened to attack Poland. Britain and France
warned that there would be war if Hitler invaded
Poland.

Hitlers hand on Poland
On 1st of September 1939, Hitler's troops stormed
into Poland. The British threatened war if Hitler
did not withdraw his troops immediately. A
deadline for the Germans to withdraw there troops
was set for 11am on 3 September. At 11.15 am the
British prime minister Neville Chamberlain
announced on the radio Britain is at war with
Germany.
