3First, create a password and write it down. Your
password must follow these rules
- It must have at least 8 characters

- A character is a letter or a number it can be a
small letter (like a), or a capital letter
(like A). - Your password cannot have less than 8 characters,
but it can have more.

large, letter.
- To type a capital letter, press and hold down the
Shift key and then press the letter. When you
are finished typing the capital letter, release
the Shift key. - Do not use the Caps Lock key to type a capital
letter!

- If you wish, you may use more than one number.
- If you want to use the number zero, make sure you
do not mistakenly use the letter o.

name or student ID number (also called the CWID).
- You may use someone elses name in your password
(for example, the name of your child, spouse,
boyfriend, girlfriend, etc.)

- It must be something you can easily remember

- Joanna20 (a daughters name she is 20 years old)
- 245Cherry (an old address)
- Study4fun (a password made up using words and a
number)
Note that each password has at least 8
characters, at least one capital letter, at least
one number, and each also follows the other
password rules. These are good
passwords. PASSWORDS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW ALL THE
PASSWORD RULES WILL NOT WORK!

13Suggested Password Format
- A suggested password format is
- Capital Letter small letters number
- For example, Newark73
- However, as you can see from the previous
password examples, your password may follow any
format as long as it follows all the password
rules.

TEMPORARY password you will use only the FIRST
time you logon.Example If your birthday is
April 1, 1973, type 040173Ucc(You will not see
the password that you type instead, you will see
black dots. Type very carefully.)
1. Your student ID number (CWID) is your User
name. Type your Student Number in the User name
box.

21Temporary Password Explained
- You will use this temporary password only the
first time you logon to the computer system.
This temporary password must follow this format - mmddyyUcc
dd means two digits for the day on which you were
born (for example, if you were born on the 23rd,
you would type 23 if you were born on the 7th,
you would type 07).
mm means two digits for your month of birth (for
example, if you were born in April, you would
type 04 if you were born in October, you would
type 10).
Ucc means you must type a capital U, then a
small letter c, and then another small letter
c.
yy means the last two digits of the year in which
you were born (for example, if you were born in
1952, you would type 52 if you were born in
1985, you would type 85).

1. In the New Password box, type the password
that you wrote down earlier.

2. Then, you must type it again, exactly the
same way, in the Confirm New Password box.

computer network. Remember -- always bring your
password with you when you come to the college.
You need your password to use a computer at UCC.
If you were not able to logon, please see an
ALC computer tutor, or go to room 201 on the
Elizabeth campus and tell the computer technician
you were not able to logon.
