4What is Fortres 101 ????
- Fortres 101 is an innovative security agent that
resides invisibly between the computer and the
user. A computer sentinel, Fortres 101 monitors
each action the user makes and determines if that
action is legal or not. Protecting not only the
software and hardware applications, Fortres 101
also protects time and money by preventing damage
to files and programs. You will no longer waste
time re-imaging, ghosting, or reinstalling
software because of accidental or mischievous
deletions and errors. Fortres 101 offers you the
ability to restrict/block local hard drives and
removable floppy disk drives as well as any local
file, folder, or application. Fortres 101 is
available for Windows 3.x/95/98 and Windows
NT/2000 machines. For users of Windows 3.x,
Fortres 101 v2.51d is available.

42Recommended Setup
Fortres 101 should not be used to hinder the end
user from doing his or her work. It should be
implemented in such away as not to deter people
from using their computer efficiently. Hence,
the purpose of Fortres is to keep people from
accidentally or purposely messing up computers,
which can help those maintaining the computers to
focus more time on critical problems and not so
much on problems initiated by end user errors.
There are really 3 pages that you need to be
concerned with in setting up Fortress. The
Windows Disable Page, The File Protect Page, and
the Privileged Apps Page. Another page to look
at if you are having problems is the Diagnostics
page. The main thing to consider before you
implement Fortres is the end user. There are
basically three types of end users in Bowling
Green City schools. You have students, teachers,
and administrative personnel.
43Lab Environment (Student)
1.) Security is tighter in the lab environment
for the students. 2.) Example of Windows
Disable Page for Lab Environment are as
follows
3.) Have frequently used programs on Desktop or
on Office bar.
44Teacher Environment
1.) Security is a little less than the Lab
environment. 2.) Example of Windows Disable
Page settings for teacher environment are as
follows
3.) Have frequently used programs on Desktop or
on Office bar.
45Administrative Environment
1.) Security is usually a little less than the
Teachers setting. 2.) Example of Windows
Disable Page settings for Administrative User are
as follows
3.) Have frequently used programs on Desktop or
on Office bar.
