Title: HEAT RESISTANCE OF NANOCOMPOSITE MATERIALS

1
HEAT RESISTANCE OF NANOCOMPOSITEMATERIALS
  • By
  • Matt Tracy and Chris Whelchel

2
What is nanomaterial?
  • Nanomaterial is
  • A claylike material that consist of particles
measured in billionths of a meter or less.
  • An additive to plastic material that improves
    its mechanical properties.

3
What is a nanocomposite material?
  • Nanocomposite plastics are plastics that contain
small amounts of nanomaterial in result of the
addition of the nanomaterial the mechanical
properties of the plastic is improved.

4
Why nanocomoposits?
  • The rapidly spreading use and reliance of
computer technology in our day to day activities,
causes the importance of the wiring for
transferring data and providing power to the
various computers that control the components of
the airplane, boat or train that we rely on for
    our traveling needs.

5
Why nanocomoposits? Cont.
  • The research of how effective nanomaterials are
on increasing the heat resistance of plastics
like that of the insulation of wires is very
important due to an emergency heat spike in the
environment where the vital cables are.

6
Research Questions
  • Does adding the nanomaterial to plastics increase
    its resistance to heat?
  • Can the nanomaterial resist higher temperatures
    of heat?
  • Can the nanomaterial be exposed to the heat for a
    longer period of time?

7
Hypotheses
  • Ho The nanomaterial will add no heat resistant
    properties to the base plastic.
  • H1 The nanomaterial will not add heat
resistance properties to the base plastic.

8
Limitations of our study
  • Many types of Nanocomposits
  • Some improve heat resistivity better than others
  • Some improve strength better than others
  • Only testing one type of material (nylon 66) with
    one type of nanocomposite()
