• Provide Capabilities For Discovering, Allocating,
  and Using a Distributed Optical Backplane
  (Lightpaths/Lambda(s)) On Demand By End
  Processes/Users.
• Create Novel Architecture and Control Methods,
  Including Intra-Domain and Inter-Domain
  Signaling, Using IP-Based Communications To
  Achieve This Goal
• Context
• Last OptIPuter Backplane Architecture Meeting Was
  Held March 4, 2004 at UCSD
• Control Capabilities For Both Intra-domain and
  Inter-domain Lightpath Provisioning Have Now Been
  Successfully Demonstrated - Repeatedly
• Complementary Functions Have Also Been
  Demonstrated Repeatedly, e.g., Access control
  function for lightpath provisioning has been
  created and implemented using IETF Generic
  Authorization, Authentication, and Accounting
  (AAA)
• Various New Protocols Have Been Created and
  Successfully Demonstrated
• Progress Continues on Making These Functions
  Complient With Standard Communication Processes
  for General Interoperability.
• Future Plans
• Implementing Methods for Lightpath Provisioning
  and Control To Interoperate Among Multiple
  Optical Network Domains Persistently and Reliably
  via Secure Policy-Based Interactions Enabling
  Applications To Achieve Additional Capabilities
  (Implies OptIPuter SW Releases Provisioned on
  Managed Devices at Known Locations)
