What is Movin Schools?

• Started as a supplement to the CDC youth media
  campaign.
• A class, grade or school would pick an area of
  the world to travel to and count various
  activities as miles based on a toolkit we
  developed.
• Mini grants were given to schools turning in
  projects.
• Partners include Wisconsin Association for
  Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance
  and the Department of Health and Family Services.

The program engages students in physical activity
outside of school.
Moving includes such things sport, service, and
family activities.

Janesville Van Buren received money for snowshoes
by doing Movin Schools the year before.
Schools that complete the project get a micro
grant for their PE program.

The program results

• Year 1 2002 10,356 students and 1,212 adults
  increased physical activity. 55 schools wrote
  projects.
• Year 2 2003 17,452 students and 8,319 adults
  participated. 80 schools wrote projects.
• Year 3 2004 17,343 students and 6,358 adults
  participated. 67 schools wrote projects.
• Year 4 2005 an outcome evaluation will be
  conducted using 4 schools, two previous
  participants and two new schools to measure
  behavior change before, immediately after the
  event and six months later.
