BARTHOLOMEW AND THE OOBLECK

Lesson Summary
  • This is a week long unit about Bartholomew and
    the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. Students will listen
    to interactive books, class reading and have
    guided reading activities. At the end of the
    unit, students should be able to sequence and
    retell events in the story, recall details in the
    story and answer questions about it, identify the
    title and the author of the book and write a
    descriptive sentence that contains the proper end
    punctuation marks, identify nouns and use it in a
    sentence. Students will be able to match rhyming
    words in a fun way!

  • Students will have access to The Cat in the Hat
    interactive CD. Students will also go check out
    websites to explore other Dr. Seuss online
    activities and other rhyming activities as well.
    The teacher will also provide software for the
    class to use.

Learning Environments
  • Students will be attending a Resource Class
    facilitated by a Resource Teacher and a Classroom
    Aide. The class will be composed of at least five
    2nd-3rd Grade Special Education students with
    Learning Disabilities. The students will be
    pulled out daily for a 30 minute period interval
    the rest of the school year until such time that
    the IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) is
    reviewed. All lessons and skills are
    collaboratively worked on by the General
    Education Teacher and the Resource Specialist.

    filled up with rhyming words
  • Rubrics for reading, writing and oral
    presentation.
