- Key components of effective drug education
programmes are those which - have clear aims and objectives
- address knowledge, skills and attitudes
- meet the needs of the young people
- challenge misconceptions which young people may
hold about their peers behaviour and their
friends reactions to drugs use (normative drug
education) - use interactive methods such as discussion, small
group activities, peer education and role play - form part of a wider community approach

4- 70 of students on this campus only drink
alcohol twice a month
5Brand idea was generated by young people as part
of an alcohol free music event. Over 200 young
people have been surveyed since July 2007, to
explore their main reasons for not drinking
alcohol and attitudes towards their friends not
drinking. Views were taken from various sources
including YOTs, LAC, Schools, FE Settings and
Youth Groups.

alcohol without the lecture. We are getting
more input from young people as they feel

- Young people were involved with the development
of an alcohol campaign. - 7 resources now feature the 100 Hangover Free
logo. - Use of brand and resources by locally funded
projects has been included in their service level
agreement since January 2008. - Resources are being used by a variety of
professionals including youth workers, school
nurses, school inclusion workers, police,
parenting officers and Voluntary Sector. - New approaches in promoting alcohol are being
adopted.
