Introduction

• It was important to us to research why students
  choose to go to college because we wanted to know
  whether certain factors influenced their decision
  like
• Where they now live
• If anyone at home attended college or
  university.

Our Research Question

• Our research aimed to find out how young people
  make decisions about college.

Methodology

• We used questionnaires and interviews, which
  contained both, qualitative and quantitative data
  from our sample group.
• Our sample group contained 2 year 11 students and
  a college student.

Our Sample

• In our research we interviewed 3 male students, 2
  from year 11 who attend Maghull High School and 1
  from Southport College, they were all from the
  Liverpool area.

Findings

• The research team were interested in how young
  people make decisions about college.
• Two year 11 students and a student from Southport
  College were interviewed
• Key findings
• All of them wanted college to lead to a good job
  and one was particularly interested in financial
  rewards.
• One student didnt know much about college.
• One disabled interviewee felt he had been pushed
  into a choice that was not his own.
• Other influencers included parents and a contact
  made at a careers fair.
• Quote I am going to make sure I get the right
  support to do something I want to do rather than
  something other people want me to do (Disabled
  young person)

Recommendations

• More access to information about colleges.
• More information available about college courses
• Information about how courses will lead to jobs
  and what kind of salaries those jobs have(
  financial rewards)
• Information about the duration of college courses.
