• Effective 1/1/2006
• Municipalities must implement requirements by
  1/1/06
• Modifies Section 214 of the Local Government Code
• the International Building Code, as it existed
  on May 1, 2003, is adopted as a municipal
  commercial building code in this state.

  remodeling, enlargement, or repair in commercial
  buildings
• Commercial building building for the use or
  occupation of people for
• A public purpose or economic gain or
• A residence if the building is a multifamily
  residence that is not defined as residential by
  this section

• Adopt local amendments
• Establish procedures for administration and
  enforcement
• Consider amendments made by ICC after May 1, 2003
• Keep a code considered more stringent than 2003
  IBC if adopted before Jan. 1, 2006. They can also
  adopt future editions of that code

Reporting of Incidents

Commercial Cooking Exception

• Intermittent use (less than 6 hrs per week)
• Does NOT have to have fire suppression system
• Must have Class 2 vent hood
• Must have portable extinguisher rated for
  commercial cooking applications

Fire Extinguishers

• Exception for A, B, and E occupancies with QR
  sprinklers eliminated
• Class K extinguishers now required for commercial
  cooking areas
• 40BC no longer permitted in areas using
  fats/oils in the cooking process

Occupant Load

• Increases in occupant load is allowable if the
  building meets all other requirements of the code
  based on the increased load the overall occupant
  load factor doesn't drop below 7 square foot per
  person
