Title: Conceptual relationships among TP2, TP3 and budget

1
Conceptual relationships among TP2, TP3 and budget
  • Tom Lindsay

2
Terms
  • Part A correlated penalties and stresses
  • Part B uncorrelated penalties and stresses

3
part A relationships
  • TP3 will include ref Tx and emulate channel ISI
  • This setup will have a PIE penalty metric
  • Proposed TP2 test will include the DUT Tx and
    channel ISI
  • Penalty test limit should not be greater than TP3
    penalty
  • The penalty value must relate directly to budget
  • Note propose using PIE-D or equivalent
    throughout (I agree with Lew)

4
part A details
  • Propose using TP3-accepted ISI generators as TP2
    test channels (in SW)
  • Presumes TP3 generators capture/represent LRM
    fibers
  • Propose using BT4 filter (realizable) EML
    source for TP3 ref Tx
  • Combined effects with PG probably Gaussian
    correctable
  • 4.5 dB (TBD), PIE-D
  • Key budget value
  • 95 w/c offsets with ??? Cambridge set
  • 60-70 psec Gaussian pulse, 20-80
  • FYI - close to present mask
  • Should offers reasonable flexibility between
correctable and uncorrectable impairments at TP2
    without significant impact to budget

5
Penalty curves concept(originals from
lindsay_01_0704)
This needs to be redone, but colored lines are
based on completely linear impairments which will
correct well. Real lasers with non-linearities
will not correct so well, so some room is
required. Red is excessive, but green may be
reasonable.

part B relationships
  • TP3 will add amplitude noise and jitter to
emulate RIN, other Tx noise(?), and modal noise
  • This setup will have a OMA/noise ratio and jitter
  • Proposed TP2 test will impose limits on amplitude
    noise and jitter
  • RIN and other Tx noise portion limit must
relate/translate to and be within RIN and other
Tx noise portion of TP3 OMA/noise
  • Same concept for jitter
  • The OMA/noise value must relate to budget
  • (other) Jitter does not relate directly to
budget, but TP2 and TP3 should relate closely

8
part B details
  • Limit TP2 rms noise to
  • TBC
  • Same as RIN value used in TP3 test
  • Limit TP2 rms jitter to
  • TBD
  • Relate to 0.1 UI SJ used in TP3 test allow for
noise to jitter translation via edge rate
