  distributor of electrical and datacom supplies
• The 4th largest distributor in the United States
• They employ 4,900 people in the lower 48 states
• Uses a complicated system to record human
  resources data
• Need a more accurate system to record their
  information
• Need a system to track the hours, pay, and
  benefits of employees

• Dwarfed the remaining competition
• Resulting in many different software packages and
  methods for collecting data.

• This software system is called Rigel
• 4 other software packages being used
• Weekly, each region must collect certain data on
  each of its employees
• Send the data off to the main office
• Main offices also use a different software than
  all of the other regions.
• Expected to roll out Regis in the Mid-Atlantic
  region in 2007.

Statement of Problem

• Poor record keeping
• due to over complication
• poor communication between sections of the HR
  department
• leads to employees records being incomplete or
  inaccurate.

• Employees may be paid for hours they never worked
• Employees allowed more sick time then they should
  have

Recommendation

• Implement a new database system that incorporates
  all of the sections of HR
• HR staff member would maintain all aspects of an
  employees records
• Centralizing the record keeping
• Placing all of an employees record under the
  supervision of one staff member

• Brainstorm database structure
• Ideas will be presented to the group in week 4.
