Macros
- A macro is a sequence of Word commands that is
recorded and - stored for later use. Macros can speed up
document creation. - Choose Tools, then select Macro pick Record
New Macro - Be sure to read Record a macro in Word.doc on
your diskette.

- Record Macro dialog box appears
- Type a name for the macro. Dont use a native
Word command!! - Check the names of Word commands by picking
Macros - Store the macro in the correct template
(Normal.dot if used again) - Type a description for the macro (so you dont
forget)

- Create a shortcut for the macro by selecting
either the Toolbar or - the Keyboard button
- Pull the command button up to the toolbar or
type a keyboard code

- Once the button is on the toolbar, you can
modify it - Click the Modify Selection button

- Click Default Style to change the macro tool

- After closing the Customize dialog box, another
small dialog will - appear containing the Pause Recording and
Stop Recording buttons - The mouse pointer changes to look like a tape
cassette - Perform the actions needed to create what the
macro will do - At the end, click the Stop Recording button

- When the macro tool is selected, the macro will
run and re-perform - all the actions just as if you had done
them yourself.

Using a Keyboard Shortcut
- If you select the Keyboard button instead of
the Toolbar button, the - Customize Keyboard dialog box appears
- Type the keyboard combination, then click

- Create a macro to automatically select a whole
paragraph and change - the font to Arial, size 14, red
- Record a new macro, and name it ChangePara

The Spike
- The Spike is a form of AutoText that you can
use to gather up text - you want to cut from various locations in
the document. - To activate the Spike, highlight the text to be
cut and press Ctrl F3 - Repeat as necessary to get all the text (and
graphics) you want - To paste the contents of the Spike, press Ctrl
Shift F3

Insert, then AutoText, - and select AutoText in the popout menu
