GAME MISSION

• In 2002, there were over 1.3 BILLION credit cards
  in circulation
• 25 of those cards had reached their limit

• Young adults ages 17-21 are heavily targeted
• Average debt on a card is 2,770

OBJECTIVE This online game is set up to help you
understand using and paying off credit over a
period of time. Fill out the worksheet provided
as you go through the game.

FACTORS OF CHOICE

• APR Annual Rate (lowergood, highermore int)
• Annual Fee fee you pay each year for having card
• Are you getting something back? (airline miles,
  cash back bonuses) If so, fee may be worth
  it

Grace Period - Shorter period due quicker
more interest youll pay if you cant pay off
amount - Longermore time youre allowed to
pay off debt
Over-Limit or Late Fees Does the company charge
for going OVER your credit limit? Some dont.
Some simply change (shorten) your grace period or
jack up your interest rate.

LOGIN CHOOSE PLAYER
STEP 1
Create OR Select one of the 7 pre-made characters
If you CREATE
If you SELECT
You will be asked to fill in your name, job,
weekly allowance, etc. Do this ACCURATELY. Do
NOT make up fake dollar amounts.
You can choose from 1 of 7 characters. Scan
through them and see which is most LIKE you and
choose that one.

SELECT CREDIT CARDS
STEP 2
Choose UP TO 3 credit cards to use. You dont
have to choose 3 and you CAN apply for more cards
later in the game if you dont choose 3 now.
CHOOSE A CARD
Tip remember what we discussed in class about
having more cards than you NEED in life. If you
dont choose 3 here and need more later in the
game you can apply for more.

SELECT PROJECT
STEP 3
Now you have to choose 1 of 7 a projects to
finance
CHOOSE A PRJOECT
You will pick a project in the game and then have
to figure out how to purchase all of the PARTS of
that project using credit cards.

STARTING THE GAME

• Now that you have selected a project, you will
  see you have MANY things to buy for that
  project.- Pick something to buy and head to the
  shop where you would buy that item. - Make
  sure to check your CREDIT CARDS and BANK ACCOUNT
  tabs each week of the game to see how much you
  owe the card company and how much money is in
  your bank accounts!
• You have to CHOOSE to make payments

STARTING THE GAME

• When you purchase from a store, if you choose
  DEBIT card, where does that get pulled from?
• After youre done buying as much as you want to
  for the week, click the END WEEK button on the
  bottom right of the screen
• The toolbar at the bottom also helps you to see
  how much you have in CHECKING and SAVINGS and how
  much you owe to CREDIT.
• Move through the weeks, buying what you need and
  paying off your credit card bill as you go.

ENDING THE GAME

• When you complete the game, you will be able to
  see your SCORE screen. When this screen pops up,
  you need to save this to Mr. Kafkas folder on
  the network.
• To do this, go to FILE ? SAVE AS ?
• The browse window will come up, go to the
  NETWORK DRIVEblah blah and find the CREDITSAFE
  folder. Go into that folder and find your CLASS
  folder.
• Save in YOUR class folder and save it as
• Example R4_ChadKafka

EXTRA CREDIT if time, play again and try for a
higher score. OR, play at home and bring in a
printout of your higher score for the better
grade or for extra credit.
