V3.5 Changes
  • These changes are referenced to v3.2.7, the build
    at NOAA Near-Real Time facility since the solar
    flare warmup Oct-Nov 2003.
  • The full list of all packages in all builds is

  • Changes in V3.5.0
  • MW RTA updates
  • Change condensation threshold from 110 to 100
    in MW-only ret
  • Continue processing if MW-only ret fails for
    water vapor
  • IR tuning update to eliminate impact of cirrus
  • Reduced channel lists in final ret
  • Increase error estimate for MW in final ret
  • Only 2 IR emissivity functions

  • AIRS L2 RetQAFlag is a convenient single 16-bit
    QC flag
  • Most users should concentrate on profiles where
    all bits are zero.
  • Low byte is equivalent to retrieval_type

  • Bits 9 10 are set for non-ocean profiles when
    the effective noise amplification from cloud
    clearing is more than 10.0.
  • Bits 9 10 are set for ocean profiles when
  • 1) Satellite zenith angle gt 50.0 degrees
  • 2) Error estimate for surface temperature gt 0.6
    K.
  • 3) Surface temperature lt 271.3 K.
  • 4) Surface Temperature is more than 2 K below
    surface temperature retrieved by MW-only
    retrieval.
  • 5) 925-1000 mbar water vapor gt 5 supersaturated
  • 6) Cloud cleared radiance at 1227 cm-1 is more
    than 1 K colder than coldest of 9 input cloudy
    radiances for that FOV.
  • 7) Sun glint location is within 200 km of center
    of profile
