- There are lots of reasons. List some reasons.

- need for excitement
- To feel worthy
- need to feel competent and successful

Showing livestock is about their personal growth
in terms of maturity, knowledge, and
responsibility.

7Five Rules to Writing Goal Statements
- Make sure the goal is something you really want
- Always write the goal in a positive manner.
- Write your goal out in complete detail.
- Make sure your goal is high enough.
- WRITE IT DOWN!!!
8Example Goal Statements
- I practice showing my steer 4 times a week.
- I brushed my steer X times per week.
- I cleaned the pig pen X times per week.
- I will help my younger sister feed her calf.
- I want to show at 7 jackpot shows this year.
- I am going to go back for showmanship this year.
- I will lead a showmanship clinic this year for my
county/chapter.

12Sportsmanship vs. Gamesmanship
- SPORTSMANSHIP
- picking up a show stick someone drops in the ring
- sharing knowledge with other exhibitors on
selection of projects - taking leadership of the county/chapter
showmanship training to help others - getting a gate for someone who has had a pig
penned - letting another exhibitor borrow a brush
- teaching a younger exhibitor how to show
- teaching a younger exhibitor how to clip
- helping a younger exhibitor carry a bucket of
water
- GAMESMANSHIP
- jabbing an animal not belonging to you in the
show ring - telling the judge that the animal weighs a
different weight than what the card says - showing a project in the wrong breed or division
- being dishonest about a breeding animals age
when registering - cutting too much feed and water from an animal to
reach a weight - blocking the judges view of another animal in
class
