Knife Safety
  • Store separately
  • Never drop a knife in dishwater.
  • Never catch a falling knife.
  • Keep knives sharp-dull ones are dangerous.
  • Use a cutting board.
  • Cut away from yourself.

Broken Glass
  • Sweep up large pieces with broom and dustpan,
    then pick up tiny slivers with a damp paper
    towel.
  • In the sink, wrap hand in towel and drain water.
    Pick out large pieces carefully, wash slivers
    down the drain.

CANS
  • Cut the top completely off.
  • Watch for sharp edges

BRUISES
  • Keep cabinet doors and drawers closed.
  • 2. Use a step stool to reach high shelves.
  • 3. Wipe up spills immediately.

  • Turn panhandles in on range.
  • Use a dry potholder or oven mitt to remove hot
    cookware.
  • Lift the lid of the saucepan or pot so steam goes
    away from your face.

  • Use tongs to turn hot food.

MICROWAVE SAFETY
  • Use only microwave safe utensils.
  • Never run it empty.
  • Pierce foods with a skin (potatoes, hotdogs,
    etc.)
  • Cover all food in microwave. Be sure to vent or
    pierce plastic wrap.
  • Use a potholder to remove food.
  • NEVER use metal in microwave.

Preventing Fires
  • Avoid loose fitting clothes and dangling jewelry.
  • Keep paper, electrical cords, etc. away from the
    range.

Steps to take if you have a grease fire
  • Turn off the source of heat.
  • Smother with a lid.
  • Pour baking soda on it.
  • Use the fire extinguisher.
  • GET OUT OF HOUSE and call 911.
  • NEVER PUT WATER ON A GREASE FIRE IT WILL CAUSE
    IT TO SPREAD.

Electrical Shock
  • Be sure your hands are dry and you are not
    standing on a wet floor.
  • Never put sharp or metal instruments in a
    toaster.
  • Never overload the circuits.
  • Plug cord into the appliance, then into the wall.

Poisoning
  • Keep chemicals out of the reach of children.
  • Store them in the original containers.
  • Never mix household chemicals it could produce
    toxic or poisonous fumes or gases.
