Why investigate a move?

• Ruawharo site increasingly unfit for purpose
• No bus access for students
• Widening of Prebensen Drive creating much heavier
  traffic and attendant noise
• Buildings needing ever more maintenance
• Not a campus feel or good student experience

Timetable

• Early March 2006 negotiations begin in earnest
  with EIT
• Original deadline proposed July 2006 -
• modified later to November 2006
• Library meetings between Twist and Massey begin
  in early July

Preparations - Ruawharo

• Weed the collection and extract and return
  National Library material
• Integrate videos and CDs into the Main collection
• Extract all Maori material and reshelve
• Add Massey_at_EIT label to every item
• Assist Twist staff to plan shelving

Preparations - Twist

• Train for implementation of Voyager ILS and
  become familiar with its features
• Move Reference collection and reshelve
• Measure and plan for addition of 14,000 items to
  the collection
• Meet with Massey library IT and Technical
  Services staff regarding records transfer for
  Massey material

Finally

• Twist staff move almost their entire collection
  onto tables the floor to free space for new
  shelving
• Ruawharo staff 3 stalwarts from Turitea pack
  all Ruawharo library material into labelled
  numbered boxes
• Shelving Shop erects new shelving

December 2006

• November 21 - Diane goes on leave
• Monday 5 December
• Twist library closed the Hub remains open
• Ruawharo boxes uplifted by carrier deposited on
  the Twist library floor
• Tuesday 6
• Catalogue download completed overnight
• All staff briefed on the reshelving

Next two weeks

• All boxes opened every item scanned all items
  intershelved with existing collection
• Problems and duplicate records are dealt with by
  Michael Kozyniak, seconded from Massey, Turitea

Twist Library reopens

• The week before Christmas, ahead of schedule,
  Twist library reopens
• Christmas cake is served to all those who come to
  admire and acquaint themselves with the new,
  enlarged, integrated collection.
