Introduction

• Regional/local events, Disasters and pandemic
  events may have a profound effect to your
  business.
• A VPN is one method of connecting your employees
  back to the corporate network from their homes or
  alternate work sites.
• Many contracted Disaster Recovery Datacenters
  offer VPN's in addition to private leased line
  access.
• Two business continuity use cases that will be
  discussed today is work site/workforce
  displacement and disaster recovery datacenter
  access.

What is a Virtual Private Network

• A VPN is a communications network tunneled
  through another network, and dedicated for a
  specific network.
• A VPN may have best-effort performance, or may
  have a defined Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  between the VPN customer and the VPN service
  provider.

Types of Virtual Private Networks

• Site-to-Site IPsec VPN This alternative to Frame
  Relay or leased-line WANs allows businesses to
  extend network resources to branch offices, home
  offices, and business partner sites.
• Remote-Access VPN This extends almost any data,
  voice, or video application to the remote
  desktop, emulating the main office desktop.
  Remote-access VPNs may be deployed using SSL VPN,
  IPsec or both, depending on deployment
  requirements.
