SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
  • Im concerned that Im beginning to feel
isolated vulnerable because there is a rapidly
widening gap between school based non school
based personnel. Those making policy are being
driven by politics rather than good educational
practice. Those left to implement policy are left
to face some VERY challenging issues/situations
    with little practical support.
  • The strong support of the Principals
Association and the lobbying that they continue
on our behalf are a guiding light

12
SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
13
SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
  • The number of homeless kids and the increasing
number of students suffering depression and
having mental health issues Parents who accept
the lies told by their children when their child
is in trouble and who take up so much of our
    time.
  • The principals role becomes blurred too often
when we are considered to be the manager of a
situation yet are subject to the same
frustrations of the employees we support eg OHS,
    Child protection, Grievance Procedures.

SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
15
SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
  • Poor parenting of students coupled with lack of
    interest, consistency and commitment and
    unwillingness to contribute to community
  •
  • Inability by Central office masters to
comprehend that violence is a way of life for
some of our dysfunctional families. It is a
chosen survival strategy arising from a range of
social pressures, poverty, race, domestic abuse
etc none of which are under the control of the
    school.

SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
  • I dont believe the system understands the
demands of the day-to-day interactions I face
it expects that I can do the must do and the
teaching and the extra, in the time I have and
    still smile.
  •
  • Tell the Bureaucrats to get out of the way and
listen to principals rather than talk at them. We
    need genuine dialogue.

Being a principal is the best job in the world
I get to influence so many others staff,
students and their families the world will
hopefully be a better place because of my little
influences   I used to love doing this job.
However in the last year or so I have been
seriously considering whether I want to continue
in it   Can I love it and hate it at the same
time?

I think many people would say I was doing quite
well BUT I have problems sleeping, become
short-tempered with those I love the most. I
dont feel that Im paid enough for that the vast
range of skills that I use at high levels is
recognized by the community. It is not a normal
life. Although gregarious I cannot have real
friendships amongst the people at my school.
21
SCHOOL LEADER WELL - BEING SURVEY
  • I liken myself to the ball in a pin-ball
machine, being bounced by every change. We deal
with flux, not change change has an element of
    order- we dont have order.
  • Dealing with teachers who are having problems in
their own lives and need to talk (and talk) the
Have you got a minute syndrome sometimes I
feel I carry all their problems around on my own
shoulders their aging parents, their errant
husband, their mischievous childrenthey walk out
feeling cleansed and I am left sagging .

22
Current Issues
  • ON TRACK DATA
  • Good news story.
  • The Age headline has got it wrong.
  • Breadth of pathways the way forward with more
funding for Tertiary training places in this
    State.

23
Current Issues
  • EBA PROCESSES
  • Crucial to adhere to consultation requirements.
  • Responsibility positions problematic in agreement
wording handbook more explicit working with
    DET.
  • Principal Performance/Balanced Scorecard?
  • RAM and EBA Intersection.
