Briefing General Address Findings

• United States captures and displays elements
  which make-up Address Line 12, City, State, Zip
  Code, etc.
• Organizations differ on how Address Line 12 is
  composed.
• USPS and HL7 represents uses specific components
  to represent Address Line 1 2 versus a textual
  BLOB.
• Various International standards (44 that were
  assessed) also capture and display elements which
  make-up Street Number, Street Name, and in
  addition Name of Place or Quarter, Postcode,
  Locality, etc.

• Address Scope Standard Approach will apply to
  both United States and International Address
  Components.
• Each Country will have a Classification Item with
  the appropriate Component CDEs listed below.
• All listed component CDEs will meet the USPS
  and/or UPU Standards.
• Whenever possible the (USPS/UPU) reference URL
  and/or documentation will be attached to assist
  in address formatting on a letter, package, etc.
• Address Set Up Canada, China, Mexico, and the
  United States have already been created as
  Classification Items.
• 44 Countries were analyzed in coming up with the
  recommendations.
• The future creation of Classification Items could
  be
• As needed.
• In advance. All 44 or Selected Group.
• Address Value Domain (State/Province) Currently
  US, Canada, and Mexico share a Value Domain. A
  separate State/Province VD was created for China.
• As Classification Items are added for countries,
  each new country will have a State/Province DE
  (VD included) added to the caDSR. The DE will
  reference the UPU State/Province list.
• Address (Other) Value Domains Agree to adopt or
  change the USPS, CDC, HL7, etc. lists.
• Address Type Agree to adopt or change the
  modified (use case/HL7) list.
