UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE IN AUSTRALIA
  • HSC Results are scaled to calculate a University
    Admissions Index UAI (out of 100) The UAI is
    calculated by adding together the scaled HSC
    marks of a students best 8 units plus 2
    compulsory units of English. Students with the
    highest Index get first choice of Universities
    and courses
  • An equivalent UAI is given to IB students as long
    as the student has completed the IB Diploma.

Applying for university in other countries
  • Hong Kong after HSC/IB results - apply January
    for September admission.
  • USA before HSC/IB exams apply by November for
    September admission in the following year.
  • Applications consider references and may offer
    advanced standing for some HL IB courses
  • Canada same process as USA usually less
    expensive
  • UK before HSC/IB exams apply by November for
    September admission in the following year.

HSC extension courses
  • Most HSC subjects are 2 unit courses, meaning
    120 hours of classroom instruction per year
  • One unit courses, including extension courses
    involve 60 hours of classroom instruction per
    year
  • Extension courses in English and Mathematics are
    designed for those seeking extra challenges or
    students with outstanding ability in a particular
    subject area

External/distance courses
  • OTEN and Open High School offer a range of (but
    not all) online and distance education courses
  • The IB has online courses available in Economics
    (SL), ITGS (HL) and Psychology (SL)

  • All completed course selection forms need to be
