28 UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE IN AUSTRALIA
- HSC Results are scaled to calculate a University
Admissions Index UAI (out of 100) The UAI is
calculated by adding together the scaled HSC
marks of a students best 8 units plus 2
compulsory units of English. Students with the
highest Index get first choice of Universities
and courses - An equivalent UAI is given to IB students as long
as the student has completed the IB Diploma.

30Applying for university in other countries
- Hong Kong after HSC/IB results - apply January
for September admission. - USA before HSC/IB exams apply by November for
September admission in the following year. - Applications consider references and may offer
advanced standing for some HL IB courses - Canada same process as USA usually less
expensive - UK before HSC/IB exams apply by November for
September admission in the following year.
