Fires in the home
How and Why?

• Smoking

Smoke alarms

• Wake you up when you are asleep
• On ceiling
• In Hall/Landing areas
• Test weekly.

Escape plan

• Work out an escape plan
• Make sure everyone knows it
• Keep your route clear of toys etc
• Get Out, Stay out, Get the Fire brigade out.

Smoke and fire - Crawl on the floor

• If your home is smoky when you are leaving, crawl
  along the floor.
• There is less smoke down there, so it's easier to
  breathe and see where you are going.

Can't get out

• If you cant get out, find a safe place to stay
  and wait for help
• Stay together in one room
• Make sure everyone knows which room to go to
  beforehand
• Close the door and seal the bottom with
  bedclothes
• Open the window and shout for help
• Stay by the window.

Stop, Drop Roll

• If your clothes catch fire
• Stop running moving around fans the flames and
  makes them burn faster
• Drop to the ground this makes it harder for the
  flames to spread
• Roll around move from one side to the other to
  smother the flames.

Get out, Stay out, Get the Fire brigade out

• Get out as quick as possible, dont stop for
  anything, stick to escape plan
• Stay out, dont go back in for anything
• Get the Fire brigade out
