What the Coyote Looks Like

• The coyote is 4 feet long and between 20 and 24
  inches tall.
• The coyote weighs between 20 and 50 pounds.
• They have bushy tails with black tips, long
  ears, and sharp teeth.
• Their fur can be light gray, brown or red.
• Coyotes look like dogs and are part of the wild
  dog family.

Where The Coyote Lives

• Coyotes live almost every where in North
  America.
• Their range spans from Alaska to Central
  America.
• Coyotes live on the plains, grassland,
  deserts and sometimes in cities.

Communication and Behavior

• Coyotes communicate by barking, yelping, and
  howling.
• Coyotes wag their tail to greet
  members of their families.
• Coyotes are fast runners.

• They bow and stretch their front legs to invite
  other coyotes to play.
• Some coyotes live in a pack and some live alone.
• Coyotes hunt and eat other animals

• Coyotes are omnivores. They eat both plants and

• People are the coyotes biggest enemy.
• Coyotes can find food easily in some cities.

  attack small pets.

Life Cycle

• A female coyote prepares several dens before her
  pups are born.
• A female coyote usually has one litter per year.
• The average size of a litter is six pups.
• After three weeks the pups can walk, run and
  jump.
• The family leaves the den when pups are two to
  three month old.
