Early Years
  • Billy Barker was born in Dauphin, Manitoba in
1894. As a child he didnt care much for school.
Instead, he rode horses and learned to shoot. He
did numerous chores and saved up to
buy ammunition. He became interested in
aeroplanes and flying early, and soon learned to
    fly.

3
Later Life.
  • At the age of twenty, Barker joined the RCFA and
was drafted to WW1. He fought in many battles and
climbed in ranks. He shot down over seventy enemy
aircraft, much like the one pictured below.

4
Main Accomplishments.
  • Billy Barker was a survivor. He crashed his
aircraft three times and survived. Once he even
crashed into an ocean and had to be airlifted
out! However, he is best known for the number of
    enemy zepplins he destroyed.

5
Why Was He Famous?
  • Billy Barker was well known mainly because of the
amount of enemy aircraft he shot down. When the
war ended, Barker had gotten over seventy-two
    (72) kills. The only person who surpassed his
record was Billy Baron, who had seventy-five (75)
    kills.

6
Other Interesting Facts.
  • Surprisingly, Barker wasnt a very good pilot.
Even more amazingly, Barker was afraid of
heights! The only reason Barker joined the
airforce was to avoid being in the army. Barker
barley knew how to fire a gun.
