Title: The Baptist Church
1The Baptist Church
2 History of the Baptist Church
The roots of the Baptist movement date back to
the sixteenth century although the first Baptist
congregation appeared in Holland in the year
1609. It was here that the church of England
minister John Smyth baptised himself by pouring
water on his head. In 1612 his friend Helwys and
others returned to England from Holland to
establish the first Baptist Church on English
soil.

4 Baptism in the Baptist Church
When you get Baptised in the Baptist church you
get a certificate of your Baptism. On it , it
tells us the date of your Baptism, the name of
the candidate, the name of the pastor who
performed the baptism and the title of the local
congregation.
5 Sunday service
The main Sunday service in the Baptist church
usually takes place in the morning and includes
two parts, a time for family worship and the
breaking of bread or communion. As there is no
set pattern for Sunday worship in the Baptist
Church, each individual Church has the freedom to
structure its worship in whatever way it chooses,
but most services will include some or all
ingredients on the table on the next page. The
Sunday service at Eden normally lasts around 75
minutes.

7 Dress
Baptists do not make a distinction between clergy
and laity and therefore do not believe it
necessary for pastors to wear special clothes or
clerical collar.
8A Baptist Psalm
Hallelujah! Sing to the Lord a new song, lift up
praises in the congregation of the faithful.
For the
Lord gives courage to the lowly, secures justice
for those who are wronged, gives food to the
hungry, sets prisoners free, restores sight to
the blind, and makes those who are bent stand
straight!
Praise the Lord,O you who
dwell on Earth, young and old together!
Let us
praise the name of the Lord.
9 Eucharist
In the Baptist Church Baptists only receive the
Body of Christ twice a month.
10 Leadership in the Baptist church
