Title: Sense of Sound
1Sense of Sound
Malta
2Hearing (or audition) is one of the traditional
five sense, and refers to the ability to detect
sound. When sound waves reach our ears, we know
that we have heard a soft sound or a loud sound.
The sound passes through the outer ear and is
funneled into the middle ear, where it bounces
off the ear drum and is amplified through three
tiny bones the hammer, anvil, and stirrup. These
are the smallest bones in our bodies. Together
they are smaller than an orange seed. It then
travels into the inner ear, which is filled with
fluid, through the cochlea, and passes the
vibration of the sound through the hair cells to
our brains.
3We explore the sense of sound. We make a game
with six containers. We fill two containers with
rice, another two with dried beans and the last
two with salt. We put on the caps and play the
game. We have to find the matching sounds in the
containers.

salt.
