Who gets billed?

• Any athletes who have sustained an injury that
  causes them to be held out of practices or
  contests and to get treatment during an extended
  length of time until they are back to playing
  status.

How Parents are Informed

• Initial letter explaining collegiate or high
  school coverage and general guidelines
• Letter explaining how to file claims with their
  insur. co. and how to submit them to the AT
  office for F/U

How Parents are Informed Cont.

• A letter outlining exact procedures to use when
  extended care and/or sx is needed and how to send
  insur. reimbursement to AT office
• Release of information form if athlete is under
  age
• Release of info. HIPAA form

Money Issues!

• How to collect the revenue
• Have established guidelines on how it gets used
  to enhance your program
• Be consistent and get this in writing

Billing Procedures

• Complete medical necessity sheet
• Complete daily treatment notes
• Submit charges to secretary before the 5th of the
  next month
• Discontinue charges on date athlete is returned
  to activity/play

Athletic Training Students

• You must have direct supervision during all
  billable treatments!
• AT students must sign athletic training student
  after their name on all notes
• ATC must co-sign

• Have policies in place at start in writing
• Hire proper personnel esp. secr/billing expert!
• Purchase accounting/billing software
• Bill electronically
• Submit on time and re-submit always!
• Use revenue to improve programs/care
