FACILITIES MANAGEMENTDEVELOPMENT CENTRE
PROGRAMMEa must for every aspiring Facilities
Estates Manager
Management development is difficult to measure,
especially if you do not take any readings before
development starts. For the same reason you are
equally unable to tell whether, when or even
where you might have arrived! Management
development is surely too important to be treated
in this casual manner. Organisations are
desperately trying to improve management capacity
and individual capability and a key requirement
is to collect meaningful baseline information
before embarking on further developmental
journeys. The Development Centre programme
offers the opportunity for individuals to
evaluate themselves against a series of
management competencies and identify their
strengths and development needs. The Centre
provides a safe environment with its success
enhanced by an objective, criteria-based process.
  • Designed for aspiring directors and senior
    managers, the Development Centre Programme
    supports the national Facilities Management
Workforce Strategy. The Programme is approved,
and supported, by the Institute of Healthcare
Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) and the
    Health Facilities Management Association (HeFMA).

Over a briefing day and a 2 day residential stay
the Development Centre Programme enables you to
demonstrate your skills, behaviours and attitudes
within different activities and situations. The
use of psychometric instruments, case studies,
presentations, discussions and interviews, offer
the opportunity for you to be yourself and
provide evidence to demonstrate your degree of
competence against agreed criteria. At the end
of the Centre you will have a facilitator
(drawn from the Observer Team) who will provide
personal and objective feedback to help in the
preparation of your Personal Development Plan.
  • The Development Centre Programme enables you to
review your existing competencies against the
    defined competency profiles for
  • Strategic Management
  • Managing People
  • Achieving Goals
  • Managing Relationships
  • Communication
  • Personal Style
  • Knowledge Management

A sample of testimonials .a fantastic
opportunity to learn in a different and safe
environment. I would not have wanted to miss this
opportunity, because I am now well prepared to
progress to the next stage in my
career. Facilities Manager "the first time
anyone concentrated solely on my development
(apart from me!) and it was incredibly
enlightening" Head of Estates I have gained a
huge amount from being I involved in this
development programme. I have extended my role
into PCT as well as acute. I am now assistant
director and actively looking for a directors
position. Senior Support Services Manager The
Centre was challenging, but in a very supportive
atmosphere feedback from observers was focused,
credible and very valuable has contributed
enormously to my PDP. Head of Hotel
Services .I found the development centre
excellent - probably one of, if not, the best
course I have attended. It gave me some real food
for thought. Thank you all, once again, for the
time and effort you invested in me.. Director
of Facilities

it is aware of the individuals development
priorities. The outcomes from the Development
