2
CHILDHOOD
  • She was born in Knudstrup to Otte Brahe and Beate
Bille Brahe .She was the little (10 years
younger) sister of Tycho Brahe and assisted him
with his astronomical observations that became
the basis for modern planetary orbit predictions.

FAMILY LIFE
  • Brahe married Beate Bille in 1544. Both the
Brahes and the Billes were among the most
powerful noble families in Denmark during their
lives. Both families owned farms, forests, and
land as well as very nice homes in several Danish
    cities including Copenhagen. Both families
controlled many fiefs. Together they built a
brick castle at Knudstrup that was completed in
1550. Their first child was a daughter, Lizbeth.
This was followed by twin boys on December 14
1546. However, one of the twins died before being
baptized and named. The other was named Tyge
(after Brahe's father). It is for their son Tyge
that Brahe is best known as he became a famous
astronomer and took on the name Tycho Brahe as a
teenager. Strangely, their son Tyge was kidnapped
by Brahe's older brother, Jørgen, in 1548. Tycho
later wrote "without the knowledge of my parents
Jørgen took me away with him while I was in my
earliest youth. He supported me generously during
his lifetime." While Jørgen took Tyge without
their permission, it does not appear that Brahe
and his wife did much to get him returned.
Together, they had twelve children, eight of
    which survived childhood including daughter
    Sophia Brahe.

HER LIFE
  • Sophie Brahe shared strong interests in the
culture of science and interacted closely, but
the gendered pattern of late sixteenth-century
elite education forced their scientific pursuits
into different molds. Sophie's scientific culture
was transmitted to a new generation of learned
    aristocrats, whereas his moved beyond
aristocratic circles to find its place in
    academic and other institutional contexts.

BROTHERS HELP
  • Sixteenth century Danish astronomer Sophia Brahe
started out as her brothers assistant. Kepler
compiled a catalog of the Brahes planetary
measurements, which was considered to be the most
accurate set of uniform data on the positions of
the planets relative to the reference background
of stars as a function of time. As Tycho
    surrounded himself with knowledgeable scientists,
Sophia benefited, learning all she could and
contributing knowledge that had a lasting impact
    on modern astronomy.

CONCLUSION
  • Sophia Brahe was a famous scientist. She made her
own career as an horticulturalist, healer
    ,historian and astronomer.
  • We think she helped a lot in science because she
invented important things such as the zodiac
    circle.
