Links to Past to the Future
  • The Present
  • In the summer of 2003 a successor structure was
created to and charged with finding a way to
leverage the broad mission and work of the NSSB.
  • Many stakeholders believe that creating a
successor structure is the best way to optimize
    the federal investment.
  • The structure was broken into three separate but
    inter-related elements
  • The National Skill Standards Board Institute
(NSSBi) whose mission is to give communities of
interest a voice within the work of skill
    standards, certifications and assessment.
  • The NSSB Education and Research Institute
(NSSBERI) whose mission is to expand and update
the amassed knowledge of the NSSB.
  • Global Skills X-change (GSX) whose mission is to
develop standards-based tools and protocols that
can be used to implement a national system of
    standards and certifications.

The Past The National Skills Standards Board
(NSSB) was created as a result of the National
Skill Standards Act of 1994. The Act included
a provision for the sunset of the Board five
years from that original date. Congress
evaluated the progress of NSSB on an annual basis
as the framework of a national system emerged
through the development of Industry Skill
Standards in five major economic sectors. As a
result, the Board continued to focus on this
broad mission until 2003.
