• Bicycles were invented because we needed some way
  to get around and for fun and exercise.

• Karl Von Drais invented the bicycle
• It was called a draisienne.
• It was invented in 1817.

• The bicycle has 2 wheels, a handlebar, brakes,
  pedals, a chain and a frame.
• A variety of materials are used such as steel,
  rubber, leather, plastic, carbon fibre and
  aluminium.
• To propel it forward you push the peddles with
  your feet and the chain pulls the back wheel
  around.

• We use a bicycle to get to places and for fun and
  sport.
• It is not useful for people who are not
  physically strong or for carrying lots of things
  or getting places quickly.

• The bicycle has changed from the first bikes. It
  now has a chain, tyres, brakes, peddles and gears
  and is much safer.
