- 2002-03 District-wide goals adopted on March 26,
2002 - Goal 5.3 authorized the appointment of an
advisory committee to assist in a review and
study of the feasibility of moving all schools to
a common calendar. -
35 Major Tasks of the Committee
- Identify initial costs and long-term savings of
making transition - Identify problems associated with making a change
- Develop a criteria for selecting which schools go
off first - Investigate a time line for transferring all
schools off year round - Forward the Committees recommendation to the
Superintendent by November 30

- Move as many schools off as soon as possible
- Do not leave one or two schools off by themselves
- Balance geographically the schools being moved
off of year round schedule each year - Look carefully at the number of restroom
facilities,drinking fountains, multi-purpose room
space, playground space, support staff space and
parking

- Do not sacrifice class size reduction in grades
K-2 (201) in order to facilitate the change - Continue to provide employees with 12 equal
monthly paychecks for the transition year - When all schools are returned to one schedule,
give consideration to studying alternative

Break, breaks throughout the year)

- Northwest School opening date shifted to
beginning of 2004-05 school year - Proposition 47 (Kindergarten University Public
Education Facilities Bond Act of 2002) approved - Visalia Unified to receive funds from Proposition
47 Bond Measure - Northeast School to open concurrently with
Northwest School in 2004-05

- Convert old cafeteria into four classrooms at
Mountain View School using Modernization Funds
before August 2003. - Add three portables at Fairview School before

August 2003 - Delay the conversion of Willow Glen until 2004-05
in order to coincide with opening of NW School
