Title: Test Taking:

1
Test Taking
  • How to make the grade

2
Preparing for a Test
  • Budget your study time
  • Make sure you have sufficient time to study.
  • Develop a study schedule and stick to it.
  • Make time to review your notes daily (this should
    cut down on study time).

3
Preparing for Test
  • DO NOT MISS CLASS RIGHT BEFORE A TEST!
  • Most likely the instructor will conduct a review
or answer any last minute questions concerning
    the test.
  • Now is the time to ask questions and clarify
anything that was a problem for you while
    reviewing your notes.

4
Preparing for Test
  • Enter the test alert and healthy
  • Dont try to pull an all nighter, for you
crammers get at least 3 hours of sleep before a
    test.
  • Eat before a test. Having food in your stomach
will give you energy and help you focus. Avoid
heavy foods that will make you groggy.

5
Preparing for Test
  • Be on campus at least 30 minutes before your test
  • Set your alarm and set a backup alarm.
  • Go to the bathroom before walking into the exam
    room.
  • Only walk into the room about 5 minutes prior to
the beginning of class. Going in too early and
listening to students conversations about the
    test can cause test anxiety.

6
Taking the Test
  • Bring proper materials needed to take the test
  • Bring at least 2 pencils/pens with good erasers.
  • Calculator, if needed. Make sure if it is battery
powered, you have plenty of power.
  • Bring a watch with you to better pace yourself.

7
Taking the Test
  • When you first receive your test
  • Do a quick survey of the entire test so that you
will know how to budget your time.
  • Do the easiest problems/questions first dont
stay on a problem that you are stuck on,
especially when time is a factor.
  • Do the problems/questions that have the greatest
    point value first.

8
Taking the Test
  • Attitude
  • Try and keep a positive attitude throughout the
entire test. If you start to feel nervous take a
    few deep breaths and relax.
  • Try not to let your eyes wander around the room,
if you need to look away from the test to gather
    your thoughts, close your eyes.
  • Dont rush. Pace yourself. Read the entire
    question looking for keywords.
  • Dont worry if others finish before you, focus on
the test in front of you.

9
Taking the Test
  • Always, Always, Always.
  • Write legibly. If the instructor cant read it,
he/she will most likely count it wrong.
  • Read the entire question.
  • If you dont know an answer, skip it, go on with
the rest of the test. Maybe there will be
something on another part of the test that can
help you with the skipped question.

10
Taking the Test
  • When you are finished
  • If you have time, look over the test, making sure
that you have answered all questions.
  • Only change an answer if you misread or
misinterpreted the question. First instinct is
    usually right.
  • Look for careless mistakes and proofread you
    short answer/essay answers.
  • Double check to make sure you put your first and
    last name on the test.

11
Post Test
  • When you get your test back
  • Look it over to make sure there are no grading
    mistakes.
  • On the ones that you did miss, make sure that you
understand your mistakes. If you dont. look it
up or ask the instructor for clarification.
  • If the teacher reviews the test in class, be sure
to make notes on what the instructor wanted for
an answer on the questions you got wrong.
  • If you arent satisfied with your grade, go to
the instructor and ask if there is anything you
can do for extra credit or a make-up exam.
  • Save the test to use for future study and review.
