SECOND GRADE WISH LIST
  • The following list of items would be most useful
    in our classroom.
  • We are thankful for all donations we receive.
  • Your help is very much appreciated!

  • books of all kinds
  • candy for rewards

WEEKLY HOMEWORK
  • Students will be responsible for completing and
    turning in homework. Homework may include
    practice pages on weekly spelling words, math and
    reading skills, and other essential topics of
    current study. Occasionally special projects
    will be assigned. Such projects allow students
    to display their knowledge and share it in
    various creative ways.
  • Homework will be sent home on most Mondays and
    is required to be turned in the following Friday
    unless otherwise noted.
  • It is my hope that by assigning homework,
    students will
  • develop responsibility and learn how to budget
    their time.
  • Parents are encouraged to assist by
  • supporting and encouraging their child at home.

Communication
  • A weekly NEWSLETTER will be sent home on Fridays.
    Information regarding class activities, spelling
    lists, and general classroom happenings will be
    included.

A COMMUNITY OF READERS
  • A.R. BOOKS Advanced Readers
  • These books are available at our school
  • library. Students check out the books and take
  • computerized comprehension tests to earn points.
    Students will be encouraged to periodically
    select A.R Books.
  • BOOK-IT
  • BOOK-IT is a national reading activity that is
    available for students in grades K-4. Through
    the months of October March, students who
    complete their classroom reading requirement will
    receive a FREE Pizza Hut personal pan pizza
    coupon. Students reaching their reading goals
    for all 6 months of the program will be
    recognized at the end of the school year. During
    the month of September, we will have a classroom
    Book Challenge to earn a class ice cream party!
  • SECOND GRADERS WILL READ 15 BOOKS PER MONTH TO
    REACH THEIR GOAL!
  • BOOK CLUB ORDERS
  • Approximately once a month, students and parents
    will have the opportunity to purchase books
    through book clubs. Order forms will be sent
    home and those interested may place orders. You
    are never obligated to buy!

Book Breakfast
  • Once a month, our class will celebrate reading
    with a Book Breakfast. This will be a special
    morning in which the kids enjoy independent
    reading and tasty breakfast treats. Students may
    invite a person of their choice to attend this
    special event. What a wonderful informal way to
    stop in and support your childs education.
  • More information will be sent home concerning
    this exciting activity!

SHOW TELL
  • Students enjoy bringing in items that are
    important to them. For this reason, we will have
    official Show Tell on Fridays. Each student
    may have a few minutes to make a presentation and
    answer questions. Please do not allow your child
    to bring toys and other such items to school
    unless it is Show Tell day. If your child is
    wishing to show a pet to the class, please let me
    know and we can make special arrangements.

CLASS RULES EXPECTATIONS
  • Second grade students are required to practice
    the following classroom rules and expectations
  • Raise your hand to speak
  • Be respectful to yourself and to others
  • Take care of personal and school property
  • Treat others the way you wish to be treated
  • Always be your best!
  • THE GEM JAR A REWARD SYSTEM
  • I will keep a jar on my desk and each time the
    class exhibits exemplary behavior, a gem will
    be added to the jar. When 50 gems have been
    added to the jar, the students will receive an
    award such as a popcorn, pizza, or movie party,
    or an extra recess!
  • What an excellent opportunity for students to
    learn the value of teamwork!

CLASS DISCIPLINE PLAN
  • It is essential that ALL students have the
    opportunity to learn in a safe and productive
    environment that is free from unnecessary
    distraction and negativity.
  • It is my goal to consistently provide this
    classroom environment for my students.
  • Students who do not following the classroom rules
    and expectations will be subject to the following
    consequences
  • Verbal warning and reminder of class rule
  • Student/Teacher conference and 10 minute time out
  • Student/Teacher conference, communication home,
    and loss of recess
  • Student/Teacher conference, removal from
    classroom, and communication home
  • Referral to principal and communication home
  • I will be fair in all discipline situations.
    Depending upon the infraction, students will be
    handled in the most appropriate manner.

SNACK TIME!!!
  • Second grade students have a daily mid morning
    snack break. Each month, a SNACK SCHEDULE will
    be sent home. Each student in the class will be
    responsible for providing snack ONE time every
    few weeks. From time to time I will also provide
    snacks for the class.
  • The following items are great for sharing during
    snack time.
  • Microwave popcorn
  • Boxes of cereal
  • Pretzels and crackers
  • Fruit
  • Granola/cereal bars
  • Fruit snacks
  • Please make sure your child eats breakfast before
    coming to school.
  • Dont have time? Breakfast is served at school
    each morning take a look at the menu!
  • We dont eat lunch until 1210pm, so snack time
    is an
  • important part of our day!

SPECIAL WEEKLY ACTIVITIES
  • Monday Art
  • Tuesday/Thursday P.E.
  • (dress appropriately please tennis shoes are
    required!)
  • Wednesday/Friday Music
  • Library Tuesday/Thursday
  • Computer lab Tuesday/Thursday

CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS!
  • Students love to celebrate birthdays with their
    classmates. When planning a birthday party for
    your child, please consider the following.
  • If you are having a party outside of school, you
    may send invitations to school if ALL students in
    the class are invited. However, if you choose to
    invite only a few of your childs friends, please
    deliver invitations sometime other than during
    the school day.
  • If you are planning to send birthday treats to
    school, please let me know!
  • If your childs birthday is during a non school
    month, we can celebrate their ½ birthday! (For
    example, if your students birthday is on June
    1st, their ½ birthday would be on December 1st.)

TIPS FOR HELPING YOUR STUDENT
  • Kids deserve to be supported and given the best
    possible educational opportunities. In order to
    achieve this, consider the following.
  • Maintain clear communication with teachers
  • Ask your student about their day and what is
    happening in school
  • Set aside family time for activities
  • Establish a nightly homework routine
  • Check backpacks daily for notes and items that
    are sent home
  • Develop responsibility through the establishment
    of chores and an allowance or positive reward
    system
  • Get involved in the classroom and school
  • Praise your student and encourage them to always
    do their best!

10 WAYS TO BE A SUPER STUDENT!!
  1. Come to school everyday.
  2. Have your supplies ready.
  3. Have your materials organized.
  4. Pay attention in class.
  5. Follow directions.
  6. Ask for help when you need it.
  7. Participate in class activities.
  8. Complete assignments on time.
  9. Follow all school rules.
  10. Always try to do your best!
