  • 2003 will see the introduction of a statewide
    Computer Skills Assessment for Year 6 students
  • will assess students knowledge, understanding
    and skills in using aspects of the information
    and communications technology (ICT) domain that
    focuses on computers
  • a year 10 assessment is also being implemented

timeline
  • 2002
  • pilot assessment in 180 schools

- pencil-and-paper test June 26
  • - practical tasks throughout August
  • 2003
  • larger pilot including 9 diocese schools

Why?
  • effective use of computer technology in our
    classrooms is an important new aspect of the
    education of our students
  • students skills need to be identified and
    evaluated, with the results of the assessment
    informing future learning and teaching programs

how will the skills be assessed?
  • both traditional means of delivery and
    administration and electronic approaches
  • an assessment by pencil-and-paper of computer
    knowledge and understandings (on one day)
  • practical performance tasks to assess computer
    skills delivered by CD ROM (extended time)

skills and knowledge to be tested will
  • be competency-based
  • be targeted to represent the skills and knowledge
    that are necessary for all stage 3 students to
    achieve
  • be based on computer skills that can be developed
    through learning and teaching activities in the
    primary key learning areas

  • A guidepost for the journey.
  • The plan is checked whenever a new purchase order
    is placed.
  • Your plan should at a minimum involve a PD and
    Hardware component

  • Maximum loan should be over 3 years.
  • A rolling replacement program will be best over
    the longer term.
  • The new purchase system means that planning
    purchases will be even more important. (Orders on
    the second week of each term)

The New Hardware Scheme
  • Apple Computers Hardware Purchasing Arrangements
  • There are very special prices available in bulk
    purchases 4 times a year.
  • Purchases will be discouraged outside of those 4
    opportunities per year.
  • Teachers can access the same savings at the same
    times

Purchasing Hardware
  • Principals are reminded that any hardware
    purchase needs to be discussed with the Education
    Officer Learning Technologies and be part of
    the schools Learning Technology Plan. In
    addition ANY planned purchase over 10,000
    requires written approval in accordance with the
    Director of Schools recent correspondence.
