John 1 35-42

• 35The next day John was there again with two of
  his disciples. 36When he saw Jesus passing by, he
  said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"  37When the two
  disciples heard him say this, they followed
  Jesus. 38Turning around, Jesus saw them following
  and asked, "What do you want?"       They said,
  "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you
  staying?"
• 39"Come," he replied, "and you will see."

• So they went and saw where he was staying, and
  spent that day with him. It was about the tenth
  hour.
• 40Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the
  two who heard what John had said and who had
  followed Jesus. 41The first thing Andrew did was
  to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have
  found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). 42And
  he brought him to Jesus.       Jesus looked at
  him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You
  will be called Cephas" (which, when translated,
  is Peter).

1.Only some people are called

• Some people are particularly gifted.
• But us ?
• Matt 28 19 Then Jesus came to them and said,
  "All authority in heaven and on earth has been
  given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of
  all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
  Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  20and teaching them to obey everything I have
  commanded you.

2. Its too hard

• Sharing Jesus ... for dummies
• We need the right tools for the job
• And maybe a different attitude! If it is Jesus
  idea that we have a go, where shall we start?

3. Its too cheesy

• Our reactions against the worst the church can be
  some TV evangelists maybe.
• Maybe knowing what it feels like to be got.
• Simple fear
• But what are we afraid of?

4. People arent interested

• Spirituality is popular
• Crystals, self help books, wicca, angels
• People are struggling
• People are more ready than you realise

Who do we tell?

• Andrew meets Jesus and goes to tell his brother.

• That was a choice he made
• Dont live in the Christian ghetto
• Start with people you know
• Stay where the people are
• Be outrageously generous
• Ask Jesus for opportunities

• Hed spent 1 day with Jesus
• All he has is his story
• Ask Jesus for courage

• Jesus our role model
• What do you want? v38
• Ask questions. Be listeners.
• What are peoples needs?
• Dont argue people into the kingdom - they dont
  want clever answers.
• What has Jesus done for you?
• Ask Jesus for insight

Why do we tell?

• We have a treasure that filled an aching hole in
  our hearts
• Jesus isnt just a good idea people need him
• Ask Jesus to soften your heart for people

When do we tell?

• Our continuing life with Jesus becomes the story
  - actions speak louder than our words.
• We will stuff up but its what we do next
  thats important.
• We are visible or at least Jesus is.

shine before men, that they may see your good

Believe!

• That Jesus is as good as he says he is.
• That God is on a mission were just joining in
  with him.
• That these practical ideas have a supernatural
  dimension and power.
• That God is looking for people to be in his
  address book.
• Ask Jesus
• for opportunity, courage, insight,
• a soft heart for his spirit to shine in you
