What is Work a miracle all about?

• Tearfund has been sharing hope in poor
  communities for nearly40 years
• But HIV and AIDS is undoing decades of
  development work 
• The pandemic has been called the biggest human
  disaster of our time

Are we doing enough?

• There are 40.3 million people worldwide living
  with HIV
• One in ten HIV-positive women knows of her
  status 
• One in three babies born to mums with HIV is
  infected  
• Today 1,600 babies one every minute will be
  born with HIV

The goal

• By 2015 the spread and impactof HIV and AIDS
  stopped and reversed in more than 40 of the
  worlds poorest communities where Tearfund works

How will we do this?

• Christians working together through Tearfund can
  do the impossible
• Tearfund wants to mobilise 100,000 churches here
  and across the world to release 10 million
  people from poverty by 2015
• We believe stopping HIV is key. To this end, we
  will focus on stopping mother-to-child
  transmission of HIV

How will we do this?

• The church provides the most potent and reliable
  mechanism to respond to AIDS across the whole
  spectrum of care, support and prevention. Love
  and compassion should be the heartbeat that
  motivates the church to act

How will we do this?

• AIDS is not demanding something new of us as
  Christians, but rather that we really become the
  people we are called to be
• Kurai Chitima, a church pastor in Zimbabwe, where
  one in four adults is HIV positive

• Tearfund needs to raise 2 million through its
  Work a miracle appeal
• We want to encourage people to give regularly to
  our HIV and AIDS work
• Just 7 a month can help a mum with HIV protect
  her baby from the virus reducing the chances of
  HIV being transmitted to a few per cent

Why regular giving?

• Our church partners can plan ahead and help more
  people, sooner 
• A total of 60 million is required to achieve
  Tearfunds 2015 vision for its AIDS work
• Regular giving is biblical On the first day of
  every week, each one of you should set aside a
  sum of money in keeping with his income, saving
  it up, so that when I come, no collections will
  have to be made 1 Corinthians 162

• We need to be praying for an end to HIV
• We can campaign
• We can organise a local fundraising event
• God can use us in his work in the world
