Title: Exposure and Followup

1
Exposure and Follow-up
  • Starting Strong on Campus

2
Matthew 2818-20
  • All authority in heaven and earth has been given
to Me, therefore go and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching
them to obey all that I have commanded and, lo, I
am with you always even to the end of the age.

3
Significance of Reaching Leaders on campus
  • The University is the clear-cut fulcrum with
which to move the world. More potently than by
any other means, change the university and you
    change the world.
  • Dr. Charles Malik Past President of the UN
    General Assembly

4
We Must Affirm our Commitment to Reaching
Students
  • Because of its offering of students
  • Because of its gift of leaders
  • Because of its formation of influencers
  • Because of its concern with ideas
  • Because of its wealth of scholars
  • Because of its abundance of internationals
  • Adapted from Jon Hinksons article in Principles
    of Leadership

5
The Question is not, If students will be
influenced? but, By whom will students be
influenced?

Wouldnt it be great if everyone knew someone who
truly walked with Jesus?
  • We desire to put the gospel within arms reach of
    every student.
  • From the International student to the fraternity
    guy
  • From the single mom taking part time classes to
    the medical students
  • From the student commuting to those living on
    campus
  • Full time/part timemale/femaletraditional/non-tr
    aditional
  • Our mission is to take the gospel to every student

9
How can this happen?
  • Making Disciples starts with Going. Going
means initiating relationships and sharing our
    faith.
  • Broad Exposuresdefined as evangelistic content
    with an opportunity to respond
  • Two year team faith goals of the St. Louis Metro
TeamRemember, each number represents a person
    that God cares for
  • 200,000 exposures (media included)
  • 6,000 group presentations (eg. Meetings)
  • 4,000 individual presentations

10
How can this happen?
  • Media Strategies
  • www.everystudent.com (posters, billboards,
    t-shirts, ads, etc)
  • Distribution Strategies
  • Freshman Survival Kits with multiple pathways to
    the gospel
  • Personal/Group Strategies
  • Team meetings, Individual interviews and surveys
  • Giving FSKs to friends/acquaintances individually

11
Potential Benefits of FSKs
  • Positive PR/Publicity - Christian group giving
    out cool, free stuff.
  • Broad-base Gospel Exposure - Numerous students
are being exposed to the Gospel.
  • Identify like-minded Christians and gather them
    together into transformational communities.
  • Identify spiritually interested unbelievers by
    utilizing the Spiritual Interest Questionnaires.
  • Create on-the-spot opportunities to share the
    Gospel with the students.

12
Freshman Survival Kit Strategy
  • This is heavy on practicals
  • Gather your team to pray
  • Find out when you can give out materialsNew
Student Orientation, Move in days, Club Fairs
  • FSKs are allocated to area campuses
  • FSKs are one of many strategies and a great way
    to start.
  • Remember, even if you have give out kits before,
people are receiving them for the first time.

13
Freshman Survival Kit Strategy
  • Get surveys printed (from staff or
    www.godsquad.com)
  • Get pens
  • Have invitations to events (weekly meetings/small
groups/Fall Getaway) at your table for people who
    want a little extra information.
  • Have a poster to tell people that you are giving
    away free materials

14
At the table
  • Meet early enough to get set up and get prayed up
  • Try to have 6-10 people at the table so you can
do immediate follow-up with people who express an
interestmake sure to write appropriate notes on
    the back of cards
  • Remember the point is to be making friends while
    exposing many to the gospel

15
At the table
  • I like to get peoples attention by saying
something like, Hey, have you gotten your bag of
free stuff yet? This is Campus Crusade for
Christ and were giving away these bags with cool
stuff. If you wouldnt mind filling out a card
    that would be great!
  • Smile and initiate with people. This is normal,
start of the school year stuff. You can be bold
and friendly and no one will mind. Respect
    people if they say no.

16
At the tablemore practicals
  • Think of a line or two that describes CCCs
weekly meeting, small groups, or events in a
manner that is understandable and attractive to
both Christians and those who are not
  • Avoid Christianese that might not resonate with
someone unfamiliar with our Christian subculture
  • Eg. youth group and Praise and Worship

17
After the kits are distributed
  • Praise God and Pray for the people whose names
    are on the cards
  • Have someone immediately begin entering the
information into the excel spreadsheet that the
    staff provide.
  • Send an email within 24 hours to everyone who
expressed an interest letting them know about
events that you have going. Let them know that
you will try to contact them by phone or in
    person as soon as possible.

18
Other table requests
  • Please keep good records of student responses so
we can give and account to the donors who
    provided finances for the kits
  • Please write brief stories (broad or of specific
people) and email them to Dan.Allan_at_uscm.org

19
Other table requests
  • Please take good digital pictures/videos so we
can show off your school at our weekly meetings.
    Email them to Dan.Allan_at_uscm.org
  • Good pictures of
  • People holding bags or distributing kits
  • People shots not scenery
  • Fronts of people not backs

20
Follow up phone calls
  • http//www.godsquad.com/pdfs/00000046041.pdf
  • Be Friendly. Be Bold. They have requested to
    know information.
  • Be praying throughout
  • This is the most significant bottleneck in follow
up. We cant repeat this enough!

21
Follow up parties
  • 2 Timothy 22
  • and what you have heard from me in the presence
of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who
will be able to to teach others also.
  • After we go and meet new people, we are making
disciples and beginning the process of entrusting
to others who will teach others also.

22
Follow up parties
  • Make sure to have foodfunding help from St.
    Louis Metro
  • Make sure to have fungames and/or mixers
  • Make sure to have contentperhaps a testimony of
how God has changed a life.
