  • Reinforced with ceramic fibres, continuous or
    discontinuous, particles, or whiskers.
  • Give improved specific strength and stiffness,
    damping.
  • Costs are relatively high.

Boron Carbide Reinforced Aluminum
  • B4C in Al matrix
  • Density less than Al alloy
  • Can be welded using standard TIG equipment
  • Available in the same forms as conventional

    dimensions
  • Trade name Boralyn Hlow strength, high
    ductility, E higher strength alloy. Depends on
    matrix alloy.
