What are they?

• An octopus is animal that belongs to a group of
  animals called molluscs.
• There are about 150 species of octopus.

What do they look like?

• An octopus is small and shy and very deadly.
• The blue ring octopus does not attack people
  unless it feels threatened. .
• It prefers to hide inside empty drink cans and
  broken bottles.
• It sprays a cloud of poison.

How big are they ?

• The largest species is the giant octopus which
  grows to be about 6 metres from the ends of
  opposite arms.
• The smallest species is only 2.5 centimetres long.

Habitat

• Most of the 150 octopus species live in tropical
  or subtropical areas.
• Different types of octopus live in different
  places. eg the Blue Ringed octopus lives in coral
  reefs.
• Octopuses live alone in their den.

Interesting fact

• The octopus can change colours to escape from its
  enemies.
• An octopus can lose an arm and grow one back in
  the same place.
• An octopus has 8 arms and 3 hearts.

What do they eat

• Octopus eat crabs, clams, snails and fish which
  they grab with their suckered tentacles. They
  tear their prey apart with their mouths, which
  are like a sharp hooked beak. Some octopuses eat
  other octopuses.
