The Sound of Music
3
What do you want ?
  • I want to know the will of God and to do it.

4
Clear and Careful teaching
  • Jesus taught his disciples carefully.
  • He Taught them by demonstration that HE is the
    Messiah.
  • He have them a choice of following Him,

5
The Character of the Messiah
  • Messiah a warrior King to save them from
    occupation
  • Messiah a supernatural prophet who would feed
the poor and remove the degradation
  • Messiah a suffering servant

6
Character of the Messiah
  • To be suffer, despised and rejected by people. He
    was not a martyr.
  • To offer himself for the people.

7
Context of His suffering
  • To die for others
  • He would rise again on the third day
  • So He endures the cross for the joy that was set
    before him Hebrews 12 10-12

8
Cautions His disciples
  • Do not deny the way of the cross
  • WE must have in mind the things of God, not
    the things of men.

9
Cross is the way through suffering
  • .Take up your cross not a burden
  • Take up your cross- deny yourself
  • Take up your cross- go to your death
  • The cross is not a terrible end to the otherwise
God fearing and happy life, it meets us at the
beginning of our communion with Christ- Deitrich
    Bonhoeffer

10
Cross bearing is the suffering
  • Not called to be stoical
  • Called to suffer, to enter into and go through
    suffering.

11
1. Cross Bearing Being Refined
  • Malachi 33. He will sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver he will purify the Levites
and refine them like gold and silver.

12
Suffering Refines
  • I peter 1 6-7
  • In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a
little while you may have had to suffer grief in
all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that
your faith of greater worth than gold, which
perishes even though refined by fire may be
proved genuine and may result in praise, glory
and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.

13
2. Cross bearing being Disciplined
  • Hebrew 12 10-11 Our fathers disciplined us for a
little while as they thought best but God
disciplines us for our good, that we may share in
his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at
the time, but painful. Later on, however, it
produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for
those who have been trained by it.

14
3. Cross bearing being Pruned
  • John 15 2
  • He cuts off every branch in me that bears no
fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he
prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

15
Comfort others - 2 Corinthians
  • Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of
    all comfort,
  • 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we
can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort
we ourselves have received from God. 5For just as
the sufferings of Christ flow over into our
lives, so also through Christ our comfort
    overflows.
  • 6If we are distressed, it is for your comfort
and salvation if we are comforted, it is for
your comfort, which produces in you patient
endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.

16
  • 9 But this happened that we might not rely on
ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 10He
has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he
will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that
he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us
by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on
our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in
answer to the prayers of many.

17
Have in mind the things of God and follow Jesus
