13This tier represents the pristine or background
values of a catchment and will accommodate the
catchment reserve values when established (Ideal)
This tier represents a water quality that is safe
for lifelong consumption provided that suspended
matter is removed and water is disinfected. (Must
meet SANS 241 Class 1 health related
variables) (Acceptable)
This tier represents water with increasing risk
to health. Yellow implies caution and catchments
should be managed towards lower level of range.
SANS Class 2 . (Tolerable to unacceptable)
This tier represents water that is not save for
human consumption. Red implies that we need to
stop and remedy the problem. Not suitable for
most users including the environment .
