Knowing what these terms mean will help you use
the Help documentation and communicate with the
Support staff and win bar bets.

Universe(s)
Universe with Feb_2005 in title represents
updated version with text fields, etc.
Select RM_General for most RISKMASTER data
RM_Medical includes RM_General Medical data
Select the proper table for the data necessary
for your query

Classes
Classes correspond to individual tables in the
database where data are stored, e.g. Events,
Claims, Org Hierarchy Click open any Class to
see Objects available for your query

Sub Classes and Filters
Some classes have subordinate classes. e.g.
Claims has Adjuster Dated Text, Claim Dates/Time
and so on. Each of these sub classes contain
relevant objects. Sub classes have no unique
icon, but are found within the parent
class. Some classes contain preformatted
filters, such as Current Calendar Year and
General Claim, which can be place in the Query
Filter window to select data by that filter.
These filters have a yellow funnel icon

Objects
Dimensions include coded and character fields
such as Claim Number, Claim Type, Claim Status
Description, Event Date, Event Description and so
on. They have a blue cube icon
Measures include numeric fields such as Claims
Current Paid Sum, Claims Current Incurred Sum and
so on. They have a red sphere icon
Details are components of a dimension, such as
Claimant First Name, Claimant Middle Name and
Claimant Last Name within Claimants Full Name.
They have a green pyramid icon

Documents
Documents are queries, which have been saved as
formatted and are found in your Personal
Documents or Corporate Documents libraries. When
queries are refreshed for these documents
reports are generated
Each document can generate one or more reports
based on its format and the filters used in each
report
Reports can be printed or saved off as xls or pdf
files or emailed

Starting to use Business Intelligence
  • Log into the application
  • ID Password may or may not be same as use in
    RISKMASTER
  • 3 incorrect log ins will lock user out until
    reset by administrator
  • Most users will have Web Intelligence installed.
    Some users and system administrators will have
    the full BI Client installation
  • Business Intelligence Views
  • Home easy access to reports
  • Info View tailor portlets for web access or
    reports
  • Options some ability to customize functions and
    screens

  • Corporate Documents Shared with all users
  • Personal Documents Users personal documents not
    available to others until moved to Corporate
    Documents
  • Publications Report distribution and scheduling
  • New Document Where to start creating a new
    document
  • Lets create a document in Business Intelligence
  • 1st well develop a plan
  • 2nd only after we have a good idea of what the
    report will look like will we begin to create it
  • 3rd it is helpful to have a good understanding of
    where data is stored in RISKMASTER and how the
    data is related. If arent confident in this
    regard, you will be.

DocumentSelecting Objects and Filters
  • Click Create New Document
  • Select RM_General Universe
  • Expand Claims Class and add Claim Number, Claim
    Status
  • Expand Events, then Event Dates/Times and select
    Event Date
  • Expand Current Reserves Claims, then Claim CR Sum
    to select OS Reserve Sum, Paid Sum and Incurred
    Sum

Minimize the expanded class to avoid long scrolls
between classes

Query
  • Expand Events, then Event Dates/Times and drag
    Event date to the Query Filters area
  • Select GT or operator and enter 01/01/2004
    value
  • Run Query
  • Note report opens in new window, Edit Report

Title and Column Headers
  • Double click cell labeled Report Title to open
    Formula bar, Click on Properties tab
  • Enter report name, Loss Run since 1/1/2004
  • In Property Cell Format area, select Blue color,
    Times Roman 16 for the font and note effect on
    title.
  • Click green check mark on Formula line to see
    changes made

Column Headers
  • Modify Event Date column title by clicking into
    it to open Formula bar and change to LOSS DATE,
    Click check mark to validate
  • Change other column headers

Click vertical column wall and drag to resize the
column width Double click to Auto size

Orientation
  • Click in blank area of the report, outside any
    cell
  • Select Properties tab and click Report Page
    Layout side tab to select page size and
    orientation

  • Note that we omitted Claim Status, Click Edit
    Query to add Claim Status to our report
  • When back in Edit Report view notice that Claim
    Status must be added to the report
  • Click the Claim Status object and drag it onto
    the report
  • Use care that it is dropped only when the proper
    action displays
  • There are 3 options on this Drag Drop function
  • Replace Cell Value
  • Insert Above or Below
  • Insert Cell Adjacent

  • Notice that when a long rectangular bar displays
    with the message, Drop here to replace cell,
    dropping the claim status replaces the Claim Type
    column values with Claim Status values

  • Click Undo button to remove Claim Status from
    Claim Type insertion
  • Note that in Webi the Undo only goes back one
    step
  • For that reason it is prudent to click on the
    Report tab at bottom of the page, right click and
    select Duplicate Report to create a second report
    for a backup
  • The second report will appear and be named by the
    system. You can right click and Rename the tab

  • Drag Claim Status into the report and move it
    into Claim type column at top of a cell there to
    insert Claim Status over Claim Type in the same
    column or stacked.

When inserting Claim Status move it to bottom of
cell to stack it under Claim Type
